The 2022 FIFA World Cup kicked off in Qatar last month, with 64 games taking place November 20th through December 18th. It is the first time the tournament has taken place outside of the summer months because organizers needed to beat Qatar’s summertime heat. Since the inaugural season of the Charlotte FC, the bars have been more soccer-friendly. The bars and restaurants have been packed with people watching matches. Below are a few of those bars and restaurants.
Big Ben Pub, located in Elizabeth @ 1535 Elizabeth Avenue, is more than ready to host the World Cup watch parties have hosting Charlotte FC all year! Expect a special menu reflecting the countries playing. For instance, they’ll serve empanadas with infused cilantro ancho chili rice and southwestern ranch for $11 and Quilmes beer for $5 to represent Argentina. Reservations are encouraged if you want to secure seating instead of showing up hours before a match to claim a table. Growlers Pour House, located in NoDa @ 3120 North Davidson Street, is the perfect place for a beer and an order of pesto brie fries. It’s expanding its hours for the World Cup. They’ll serve biscuits and gravy and a doughnut breakfast sandwich with bacon, egg and cheese, using a plain doughnut from Reigning Doughnuts during the early morning games. You can catch a match on these dates and times: December 9th 1:30PM, December 10th 9:30AM and December 18th 9:30AM.
Resident Culture Brewing, located in SouthEnd @ 332 West Bland Street, is teaming up with Charlotte FC defender Christian Fuchs to throw No Fuchs Given World Cup watch parties for all USA matches. The No Fuchs Given lager has been re-released, which is on draft throughout the tournament while supplies last. USA matches will be shown on a new, permanent 110-inch projector screen and on TVs throughout the taproom.
Head to this popular South End spot for 8am matches during the week. Suffolk Punch, located in SouthEnd @ 2911 Griffith Street, will stick with normal business hours, which means opening at 7:30am during the week and 10am on weekends. They’ll show all USA matches. You can reserve tables and TVs for games other than USA matches. They will stick with their standard specials: Monday-$10 burgers, Tuesday-Half-off wine, Wednesday-$8 cocktails, Thursday and Sunday-$3 beers.
Salud Cerveceria, located in NoDa @ 3306-C North Davidson Street, is expected to generate a lot of traffic during the World Cup. Salud Cerveceria opens at 8AM daily and Salud Beer Shop will open at 9:30AM. Breakfast will be available at both until 11AM. They will serve $4 Del Patio house lager drafts on match days at Salud Beer Shop (downstairs) as well.
