North Carolina is home to some of the most gorgeous mountains in the United States. They offer the perfect setting for ski lovers, snowboarders, and those who just love to be out in the cold and snow. Below are some options, within 3 hours of Charlotte, where you can hit the slopes and check out the beautiful scenery that the mountains have to offer. Be aware for most of these locations the ski season will end in March 2024.
Beech Mountain Resort, located in Beech Mountain, NC, is 121 miles away from Charlotte. They have 17 slopes (four green runs, eight blue runs, four black diamond runs and two freestyle terrain parks). The cost for ski rentals range from $30-$45, including boots, bindings and poles. Snowboard rentals range from $40-$45. Helmets rent for $15. Lift rates range from $30-$76. You can grab something to eat from 5506′ Skybar or enjoy beer and bar bites from Beech Mountain Brewing Company. Tubing is open for those who do not want to hit the slopes. Ice skating is closed for the season.
Appalachian Ski Mountain, located in Blowing Rock, NC, is 95 miles away from Charlotte. They have 13 slopes (three green runs, three blue runs, three black diamond runs and four freestyle terrain areas). The cost for ski rentals is $19-$42, snowboard rentals are $27-$48, and lift rates are $27-$83. There is an onsite restaurant open for breakfast, lunch and dinner with offerings like eggs and bacon, grilled burgers and hot dogs. For those who do not like to hit the slopes you can hit the ice skating rink instead. There are three ice skating sessions per day (12PM-2PM, 3PM-5PM and 7PM-9PM). Rental rates from $29-$40 including boots and poles, helmets are $10, and lifts are $59-$83 for an all day pass.
