Igloo dining is not a new concept to the rest of the world but to Charlotte it is something we are learning to adopt. The pandemic has created hesitation in regards to dining in restaurants due to fears of getting the Coronavirus, especially with the new more contagious strands running rampant. Listed below are 4 restaurants who have joined the igloo innovation in order to allow guests covered outside eating during the winter months.
The Goodyear House, located in the Noda District, has 6 igloos that fit up to 6 people each, including a high chair and stroller. There is a 2 hour time limit for dining in an igloo. Time slots will vary with more slots being available on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The igloos are sanitized between visits by staff to ensure safety. You have the option of leaving the door open on warmer days. A $25 fee will be added to your bill, which is donated to their charity Goodyear Giving. The charity was able to send staff members to Nicaragua las year to help build a school due to the amount of money raised. You can make a reservation for dining via Open Table.
Merchant and Trade, located in Uptown Charlotte, has 2, very upscale igloos that fit 12 people each. Reservations must be made in order to dine in one of their igloos. The igloos will be open until March 30, 2022. Both are unique and decorated by local designers: one is Boho-themed, the other has a slick and modern feel. Each has a small space heater inside, which is enough to keep everyone warm. The igloos are sanitized between each use. You can expect to pay a total of $1100, which includes the rental fee and food and drink minimum of $750-$850 plus 25% gratuity and tax. Reservations can be made online.
The Aura Rooftop, located on top of the JW Marriott in Uptown Charlotte, has 6 igloos that fit 8 people each. The igloos will be open through the end of February. There is a 2-hour limit per reservation. The igloos are sanitized with peroxide spray and aired out for 15 minutes between each reservation. You can expect a $350 food and beverage minimum, plus $10 per person, 20% gratuity and tax. Reservations can be made via Open Table.
1501 South Mint, located in South End, offers on igloo that accommodates 6 people. The igloo will be open through winter and the first part of spring. The time limit for your reservation will depend on the day that you book. You can eat, drink, smoke cigars, and hookah inside the igloo. 1501 South Mint is open Tuesday through Thursday from 4pm to 11pm, Friday from 4pm to 1am, Saturday from 1pm to 1am, and Sunday from 2pm to 10pm. Each igloo is sanitized in between usage and cleaned every morning by a professional cleaning crew. There is a $500 spending minimum.
