Juneteenth is an annual federal holiday that is celebrated on June 19th to commemorate the emancipation of enslaved people in the US. The holiday was first celebrated in Texas, where on that date in 1865, in the aftermath of the Civil War, enslaved people were declared free under the terms of the 1862 Emancipation Proclamation. 2024 Juneteenth Festival @ Cabarrus Arena, 4751 NC 49, Concord; 1PM-5PM: The 2024 North Carolina Juneteenth Festival themed “Educating, Empowering, Entertaining” will feature over 100 black owned companies. Queen City Juneteenth Parade and Cultural Celebration @ Central Piedmont Community College – Cato Campus, 8120 Grier Road; 9AM-12PM: A day filled with joy, unity, and celebration. The parade will showcase vibrant floats, music, vendors, and dance performances that honor African American heritage and freedom. This event is a wonderful opportunity to come together as a community and commemorate the significance of Juneteenth. Don’t miss out on this memorable experience! Freedom Day Juneteenth Celebration @ York Recreation Center, 21 White Rose Lane, York, SC; 4PM-9PM: Being hosted by the City of York and The Good Leaf Cigar Stop. This a chance and opportunity to highlight and celebrate the black community in the city. There will be fun games and activities for the kids, beer and wine for sale, retail vendors, and food vendors! Along with the band Plair will be performing as well!
Belmont Juneteenth Celebration @ Stowe Park, 24 South Main Street, Belmont, NC; 2PM-9:30PM: The Belmont Juneteenth Celebration is a free cultural festival of arts, crafts, music, food and more hosted by Elements of Empowerment for the City of Belmont. The celebration will include music throughout the day, and a finale concert from 7:30 PM – 9:30 PM. Music, art, and culture are the key elements of the festival theme.
