One of the best characteristics about living in the Carolinas, is the beautiful colors we get to experience during the Fall Season. Over the next few weeks the leaves on the trees will be changing, painting the most beautiful scene anyone can experience. Below are five places where you can hike to experience the beautiful fall foliage and the best time to go based on the fall foliage forecasts.
Boone Fork Trail is located in Blowing Rock along the Blue Ridge Parkway, in Julian Price Memorial Park, about 2 hours from Charlotte. The best time to see the foliage based on forecast is October 17th-23rd. This 5.2 mile trail is popular among more experienced hikers and known for its mix of terrains. Part of the hike is easy-to-moderate, but several miles include creek crossings, ladders and rocky terrain.
Greenway Trail Loop is located in Boone, NC in Clawson Burnley Park, about 2 hours and 10 minutes from Charlotte, NC. The best time to see the foliage based on forecast is October 17th-23rd. This 3.3 mile trail offers a beautifully scenic walk in nature and it’s partially paved.
Stone Mountain Loop Trail is located in Stone Mountain State Park, near Traphill, NC, about 1 hour and 45 minutes from Charlotte. The best time to see the foliage based on forecast is October 24th-October 30th. This 4.5 mile trail hike is tough but is worth the sweat and tears with sweeping views and a gorgeous waterfall. There’s a lot of space to rest at the top of the mountain, so pack a picnic and take in the hard-earned views.
Seven Oaks Preserve Trail is located in Belmont, NC off S. New Hope Road, about 30 minutes from Charlotte. The best time to see the foliage based on forecast is October 31st-November 6th. This 4.6 mile trail wraps around the shoreline of Lake Wylie. There’s plenty of tree coverage and foliage. Plus, it circles around Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden if you want to stop and explore.
South Fork Rail Trail is located outside of Lincolnton, NC near the Laboratory Mill, about 45 minutes from Charlotte. The best time to see the foliage based on forecast is October 31st-November 6th. From this 3.5 mile trail you can see the historic Laboratory Mill on the other side of the river. The path is perfect for hiking, running and mountain biking.
