Now that Spring is officially here, that means it is strawberry picking season! Strawberry season began mid-April and will run through early June. If you live in the Charlotte area then you should consider yourself lucky! There are tons of places to get outside, enjoy the sunshine and fill your bucket with beautiful red fruit. Strawberry picking is a fun activity that’s perfect for every member of the family, from toddlers to grandparents. Plan your day, choose a bucket and get to work selecting the biggest, juiciest berries for a pie, jam, as a cereal or ice cream topper or a delicious snack . Many of the places listed below include special activities so you can plan to stay a while. Welcome to the bright, sticky days of spring. Time to dig in!
Wise Acres is a USDA certified organic farm located in Indian Trail. In addition to strawberry picking, Wise Acres is known for their Wise Pie, wood-fired oven pizza (Saturday & Sunday only). Reservations must be made where you can tailor your activities based on package options. Other activities include: wagon ride through the woods; barrel train (12 and under); Climb, swing, ride, or zip line in their recycled tire playground and wooded park; Meet & greet our goats, pigs, chickens, and rabbits; Take or leave a book from our Little Free Lending Library; Shop the barn for local goods including honey, elderberry syrup, kombucha, treats, and more!
Carrigan Farms is a 5th generation family-owned farm specializing in growing quality fruits and vegetables, educational school tours and field trips, weddings, swim parties, and other special events located in Mooresville. Carrigan Farms is known for their authentic U-Pick strawberry experience. Can’t forget the fresh asparagus and heirloom leaf lettuce available through mid-May at the strawberry patch. Reservations are not needed. Other activities such as open swim at the quarry will open in May. Check out their website for all of the other activities offered throughout the year.
Patterson Farm has been in business since 1919; therefore, they know a thing or two about making mouth watering produce. The farm hosts activities galore to go with those fresh picked berries so plan to spend some time here. Don’t miss Very Berry days (dates TBD) to dig into all things strawberry. All that picking is going to make you hungry! Make sure you stop by the Snack Silo where they make their own kettle corn. So good! Kids can also burn some energy on Pappaw Carl’s playground for a fee. The public location for strawberry picking and pre-picked berries is located at 10390 Caldwell Road, Mount Ulla, NC 28125.
Bush-N-Vine located in Lancaster, SC will be open through the first week of June. Come relax, get your fill of strawberries and finish the day with strawberry ice cream. Don’t miss the observation bee hive! U-Pick strawberries is only open on Saturdays 8AM-3PM.
Springs Farm in Fort Mill serves up a double whammy of mouth watering happiness. Start in the strawberry patch picking only the biggest and best berries, then reward yourself for all that hard and sweet work with some of the best strawberry ice cream around. You won’t be disappointed! The strawberry field is open only on Friday-Sundays.
