It’s my favorite time of the year! Warm weather and sunshine make for perfect days to enjoy brunch with friends, family, your significant other, or whoever you like to brunch with! Below are ten brunch spots to visit this year!
Ruby Sunshine, a New Orleans based restaurant, is my personal favorite, located on 332 West Bland Street. They do not take reservations but you can join their waitlist on the day you plan to visit their establishment. I recommend the beignets and the buttermilk biscuit sliders duo, one slider with slow-cooked apple-braised pork, pickles and remoulade sauce, and one fried chicken and gravy with pork tasso cream sauce. Their coffee from French Tuck Coffee is absolutely amazing! You will not be able to have just one cup. Breakfast/brunch is served 7:30AM-2PM on weekdays and 7:30AM-3PM on weekends. You cannot go wrong with anything on their menu.
El Puro Cuban Restaurant is located at 5033 South Boulevard. El Puro celebrates 1950s, pre-revolutionary Cuba through food and atmosphere. The restaurant is the latest concept from the family behind Havana Carolina Restaurant & Bar in Concord. It is recommended to try the tres leches pancakes ($16) or the “la Habanera,” made with thin Cuban bread crust with sofrito sauce, lechon asado, ham, mozzarella, feta and sunny side up eggs ($18). They serve brunch on Saturday and Sunday from 11PM-3PM. Check out the full menu here.
Haberdish, known for its Southern comfort food and cocktails, is located at 3106 North Davidson Street. This NoDa staple comes from husband and wife restaurateurs Jeff Tonidandel and Jamie Brown, who also own Supperland, Growlers, Pourhouse, and Ever Andalo (formerly Crepe Cellar). It is recommended to try the scratch-made cinnamon roll with sugar and milk caramel ($5.50) and the chicken biscuit sandwich, made with de-boned fried chicken, slaw, honey mustard and pickles ($9). Haymaker is a farm-focused eatery from Asheville-based chef William Dissen offering locally inspired and seasonal food. Haymaker is located at 225 South Poplar Street. It is recommended to try the Haymaker breakfast with two scrambled eggs, Benton’s bacon, herb-roasted potatoes and a jalapeño biscuit ($15). Brunch is served from 10AM-2PM on Saturday and 10AM-4PM on Sunday. Check out the full menu here.
Heist Brewery is the perfect spot for a Sunday fun-day! Located at 2909 North Davidson Street in NoDa. Their brunch buffet is $20 and they have $5 beer pitchers and $10 carafes. They also have a chef special every Sunday, which ranges from crawfish boils, to Shrimp and Grits, to seafood mac n’ cheese. Brunch is served every Sunday from 10AM-2PM.
Suffolk Punch, located at 2911 Griffith Street, this South End brewery, bar and restaurant is a great place to start your Sunday Funday. It is recommended to try the chicken-n-biscuit with buttermilk fried chicken, scratch-made biscuit, scrambled egg, topped with peppercorn-chive gravy ($18). The Crunkleton, is a popular Elizabeth cocktail bar which has a small, tasty brunch menu. They are known for its beverage program. The restaurant features a nine-drink brunch cocktail list with classics like the espresso martini ($14) and bloody Mary ($14).. They are located at 1957 East 7th Street. The Degenerate, located at 2116 North Davidson Street, this Villa Heights gastropub has an international menu and its brunch is no exception. It is recommended to try the Blintzes ($11), whipped cream cheese stuffed crepes, fruit and honey. If you’re in the mood for a cheap, easy meal, go with a simple bowl of cereal. Nothing fancy, but it’s usually about $2. It opens for brunch at 11AM Saturday and Sunday.
Easy Like Sunday, located at 1600 East Woodlawn Ave, offers an intimate and approachable space with an impressive coffee program centered on its Kyoto cold brew, a super-strong, 24-hour drip coffee. It is recommended to try the classic French toast ($13.95) or the ricotta-stuffed French toast ($16.95) made with house-made sweet ricotta, berry compote and crumbled bacon. They are open Tuesday through Friday from 9AM-3PM and 8AM-3PM Saturday and Sunday. Check out their full menu here.
La Belle Helene, located at 300 South Tryon Street, known for its striking main dining space, La Belle Helene is a no-brainer brunch option if you are looking to dress up for a daytime meal during the weekend. The menu centers on French cuisine. It is recommended to try the spinach and mushroom quiche ($22) and the banana fosters French toast ($22).
