With the current weather conditions being high 90’s and low 100’s, some people may find it too hot to enjoy the outdoors. Aside from the common go-to’s such as breweries/bars, coffee houses, gun ranges, museums, and malls here are 10 indoor activity alternatives to check out to escape the heat. These activities will also be good to check out year round as we endure all weather condition types!
Grab your pickleballs! Check out Charlotte’s new indoor/outdoor pickleball bar, restaurant and cafe, Rally, located in LoSo at 101 Southside Drive. Court reservations can be made 5 days in advance for up to twelve players and for up to two hours. Equipment is included. Check their website for times, hours, and pricing.
Go to Museum of Illusions! Located in Uptown at 601 South Tryon Street in Ally Center, this museum includes more than 60 interactive exhibits that play different visual tricks on your mind. You will find holograms, optical illusions and plenty of Insta-friendly exhibits. Carve out 45-90 minutes to walk through the exhibit. Ticket prices vary based on age and a variety of statuses. They are open Sunday-Thursday 10AM-9PM and Friday-Saturday 10AM-10PM.
Play indoor putt-putt! The Puttery, which is one of my favs, is a swanky mini golf course-meets-bar concept in South End, with two courses, a full bar, small bites, and plenty of lounge space to hang out before or after a game. Reservations for putt-putt are highly recommended.
Test your swing action if you dare! If mini-golf’s not your thing but you still want to practice your swing, head to one of Charlotte’s two TopGolf locations: University City and Southwest Charlotte, near Steele Creek. TopGolf University City is located at 9110 Drivers Way. TopGolf Southwest is located at 8024 Savoy Corporate Drive. You can enjoy a game on the multiple televisions, partake at the bar, get a bite to eat as they offer a full-menu all while practicing your swing should you choose!
Play games old and new at a bar-cade! Super Abari, located at 1015 Siegle Avenue , is a nearly 5,000-square-foot game bar and arcade in the Belmont neighborhood, that has 35 pinball machines, 60 arcade games and a massive Nintendo Game Boy, plus a bar and a “living room” lounge area. They are open Monday-Friday 5PM-2AM and Saturday and Sunday 12PM-2AM.
Pet some cats, drink some coffee! Calling all cat lovers! You can hang out with adoptable cats at Mac Tabby Cat Cafe in NoDa for 30 or 60-minute time slots. Reservations are recommended but not required. There is also a small cafe area (separate from the cat room for sanitation regulations) where you can grab baked goods, coffee or kombucha.
Sing your heart out with Karaoke! Another favorite of mine. Located in the Mill District at 421 East 26th Street, Seoul Meat Co is a perfect alternative spot for both indoor and outdoor activities for all ages. They have games and a water splash area for the kiddies and pups. They offer a food menu, bar AND karaoke. You can rent one of the private rooms for a party, outing or gathering. It is loads of fun!
Hit the race track with indoor karting. Victory Lanes Karting, located in North Charlotte at 2330 Tipton Lane, has an indoor go-kart track (each race is eight minutes long), axe throwing, an arcade, a virtual reality space and bowling. They are open Monday-Thursday 11AM-10PM, Fridays 11AM-midnight, Saturdays 10AM-midnight and Sundays 10AM-7PM.
Take an adults arts and crafts class! Check out Wine + Design, located in Dilworth at 1419 East Boulevard on the 2nd floor, near Toccare Day Spa. Be sure to dip your brushes in your water and not your wine! I have almost made that mistake once or twice.
Go crazy inside a massive 20-acre amusement park! The 84,000-square-foot indoor portion of Frankie’s Fun Park in Huntersville, located at 10621 Bryton Corporate Center Drive, has 24 bowling lanes, a restaurant, bar, laser tag, a three-story playground, a ride that drops 30 feet, LED-illuminated bumper cars and a massive arcade. Entry to the park is free. You pay for the activities and games you choose. Pricing will vary based on activity. They are open Sunday-Friday 12PM-12AM and Saturday 11AM-12:30AM.
