One thing about the Charlotte-Metro area is the food and beverage scene is always changing and growing. As restaurants and bars close others are opening. We truly are the melting pot of cuisine, culture, and activities. Here is a list of ten restaurants and bars new to the area or are opening in the near future.
Eden, located in Plaza Midwood at 1212 Pecan Avenue where Peculiar Rabbit used to be, is a three-story venue that will have different vibes on each floor, plus indoor and outdoor seating. Expect small shareable bites on the first floor, desserts and charcuterie on the second level and brunch on the rooftop. The drink menu will have five to seven specialty cocktails, premium champagne, beer and wine. Eden is now open as of August 11th.
Coquette is a new French café and restaurant, from the owners of Mariposa and Fern Flavors now opened as of August 22nd. Coquette will offer coffee and pastries by day, and staple French dishes, like oysters and duck fat fried chicken, by night. Coquette is located at 400 South Tryon Street.
Frothy Beard Brewery Company is a Charleston based taproom that is now opened as of August 22nd in South End at 1200 South Graham Street. Expect a variety of beers. Their most popular beers are the “Sip Sip Pass,” a New England IPA, and the “Tides of Galway,” an Irish red ale. They also have a variety of sours on tap. They will also have a menu featuring a range of pizzas, burgers and salads.
Phat Burrito is now open in SoHo Village after closing nearly five years ago. Expect the same oversized burritos. The 2,600-square-foot corner space is a bit bigger than the original, but owner Michael Cox says he hopes to capture the same vibe inside. They are located on the corner of South Boulevard and Clanton at 3543 Dewitt Lane.
Sixty Vines, now open as of August 21st, is a wine-centric restaurant that will bring vineyard vibes to Vantage South End. The 8,000 square feet space has 350 seats of indoor-outdoor seating and a lush greenhouse for private events. Expect 60 wines-on-tap and vineyard-inspired food, including custom charcuterie boards, hand-tossed pizzas and pasta. They are located at 1415 Vantage Park Drive Suite 100.
Chapter 6 is a new restaurant from restaurateur Jon Dressler, who’s behind The Porter’s House, Fin & Fino and Dressler’s. The menu will feature cuisine from around the world, a bar, nearly 7,000 square feet of restaurant space and an outdoor patio overlooking the Rail Trail. Chapter 6 will be located inside The Line in South End. They are located at 2151 Hawkins Street and are projected to open on September 16th.
Pizza Baby is a New York-style pizza joint by chef Trey Wilson from Flour Shop in Park Road Shopping Center. Expect eight to ten pizzas on the menu, plus four to six salads and vegan options. The dough itself will be vegan and will be for sale. They will also offer dough-making classes. Pizza Baby in Wesley Heights will open on September 1st and Pizza Baby East in Elizabeth will open Fall 2023.
Bulldog/Taproom Social is a popular hangout that has evolved over the years from a college town bottle shop to a South End nightlife destination, that will relocate to Centro Square building at 222 West Boulevard. The new two-story space will still have a laid-back, unpretentious vibe that will offer lots of beer, dart boards, flat-screen TVs and whiskey barrel-style tables packed with patrons.
Runaway Whiskey & Wine is A 1920’s bar with an atmosphere that nods to the Prohibition Era, combining Art Deco and mid-century modern style. Expect an extensive selection of whiskey and wine, plus specialty-crafted cocktails and a variety of small plates. They will be located at 2135 Thrift Road Suite P and are projected to open in September.
Taco Boy, is a popular taqueria out of Folly Beach in Charleston expanding to The Station at LoSo. They also have locations in Asheville. The 15,000-square-foot space will have indoor and outdoor seating and tortillas made in-house. The menu will feature scratch-made tacos, quesadillas and sides like rice and beans, chipotle slaw, Mexican street corn and guacamole. They are expected to open late September or October.
