Summer does not officially begin until June 21st; however, the temperatures the Charlotte area has been experiencing suggests summer is already here. With high 90’s and low 100’s we have had, it is just too hot to do anything outside that does not involve being in the water. Below are 5 activities you can do indoors to escape the heat!
1. Go for a game of indoor Putt-Putt at places like The Puttery in South-End or Stroke in Plaza Midwood. You can enjoy a round of golf, get a bite to eat, and refresh yourself with a cocktail.
- The Puttery offers two courses, each with a signature drink menu.
- Stroke is a little more intimate with one putt-putt course and a mid-century modern lounge.
2. Pet Cats at Mac Tabby Cat Cafe. For $12/hour, you can hang out in a room with a bunch of adoptable cats. They also have an $8, 30 min walk-in experience options subject to availability upon arrival. Visit their website to learn about adoption information. They also have a small café area (totally separate from the cat room for sanitation regulations) where you can grab baked goods, coffee, wine, local craft beer and can pick up the guitar to play if you want to. If you love cats, Mac Tabby is a wonderland.
3. Try ax throwing to get out of the heat. There are several different options in Charlotte to experience ax throwing.
- BATL Axe Throwing (Plaza Midwood) – 933 Louise Ave., Ste. #108
- BATL Axe Throwing (LoSo) – 4128 South Blvd., Unit C
- Bad Axe Throwing (Uptown) – 350 East 6th St., Unit 1
4. Love amusement parks but do not want to be out in the heat. Then Frankie’s Fun Park is the place for you. Perfect for adults and kids. There is 84,000 square feet of indoor activities which includes 24 bowling lanes, a restaurant, bar, laser tag, three-story playground, ride that drops 30 feet, , virtual reality games, LED-illuminated bumper cars and a massive arcade (you can redeem arcade points for physical prizes). There are also outside attractions for those who don’t mind the heat such as mini golf, rides, race track, and more.
5. Eat, sip and shop inside one of Charlotte’s food halls.
- Optimist Hall has over 25 tenants, including local favorite Dumpling Lady and the adorable stationary shop, Archer Paper. El Thrifty is another popular restaurant because not only do they offer great food and beverages, you can also partake in a game of mini duck pin bowling, shuffle board, golf simulator and more.
- The Market at 7th Street is a non-profit food hall in Uptown. The tourist magnet is great for locals too with 10 vendors, including Not Just Coffee, Viva Raw and CLT Find.
