Summer does not officially begin until June 21, 2022; however, the heat we are experiencing in the Charlotte area suggests summer is in full swing. Below are 5 activities to do this summer.
At the top of the list, is to spend a day for a day-pass at $45 or all summer with a season-pass for $130 at Carowinds. With this amusement park in our back yard, there is no excuse for not having anything to do on a nice, hot summer day. Carowinds has more than 50 rides at varying thrill levels. For those who like roller coasters you can get your thrills on rides like the Fury 325, Copperhead Strike, and Intimidator. Younger kids and their families can spend time in the kid-zone and ride rides like the Flying Ace Balloon Race and the Kiddy Hawk coaster. Don’t forget about Carolina Harbor, Carowinds massive waterpark where you can cool off on a hot summer day. Carolina Harbor is filled with slides, a lazy-river, 2 waves pools, kiddie spot for the kids and their families and other attractions.
Another great activity is dining at a restaurant on the lake. Both Lake Wylie and Lake Norman have great spots to eat lunch or dinner while sitting outside, enjoying great views of the lake. One of my favorites is Toucans on Lake Norman, located in Mooresville. They offer daily oyster specials, adult beverages, great views and fabulous cuisine. Havana 33, also located on Lake Norman in Mooresville, offers Cuban cuisine, great music, adult beverages and view of the lake. Drift, located on Lake Wylie in Belmont, offers fine dining, great views, and what they call adult libations.
Swim in the rock quarry at Carrigan Farms located at 1213 Oak Ridge Farm Hwy, Mooresville. It’s a natural spring-fed body of water that was discovered in the 1960s when mining for granite stone. Now, it’s become a popular local destination to spend hot days. The best part? It has a mini beach with sand. It’s $25/per person to swim at The Quarry (cash only). You must pass a swim test to be in the water without a life jacket. Reservations must be made online.
For the sports people, you can catch a Knights baseball game at Truist Field. Baseball is in full swing!! Games are operating now through September. The Charlotte Symphony will celebrate America in an evening full of anthems and marches. The night will end with a fireworks finale on June 22.
